Writing The Natural Way For Your Website

In her book, Writing the Natural Way, Gabriele Rico explains how clustering can help you explore new ideas when writing. Instead of sitting down at your keyboard to write, Rico suggests you first map out clusters of related ideas and thoughts. It’s allowing your brain to naturally think of creative ideas that come to mind.

How does this work? It begins by taking a notepad and writing one word that you’d like to write on. Then you think of a word that relates and write it down next to the main term, connected by a line. Then you think about related words for the subterm and write them around that term, connected by lines.

After you’re done, you will have a sheet of paper with groupings of words and associated words connected by lines. It will look like a bunch of spokes on a wheel. Your paper will look messy. But then you will see relationships between ideas. This is where the fun begins.

As you keep at it, brainstorming allows your mind to freely think without stopping to correct grammar or syntax. This process is fun because there are no right or wrong answers. Whatever comes to mind is written down.

This process may be used for your website writing. Whether you’re thinking about how to explain your business to your online constituency, or you are writing an appeal email, you can leverage this technique. By doing so, your writing will take on a deeper and more rich quality.
