Importance of Calls To Action

So you spend countless hours polishing your appeal letter and send it out. You anticipate a big draw since your message was clear and compelling. You hope the effort you invested in this appeal pays off… literally!

To your dismay, after waiting two weeks, no one responds. Not a single person. You bang your head against the desk a few times before heading to the vending machine for a little comfort food.

You come back, feeling better and sit down. You regain your composure and collect your thoughts. Then you scour your appeal looking for clues to why no one responded.

You then give the appeal to your friend to look at and she notices there is no call-to-action anywhere in the appeal. The letter does not ask the reader to do anything. The letter states the problem but fails to provide an opportunity for the reader to help.

Without calls-to-action, your appeals will only inform but not get. And if the purpose of your appeal is to motivate a financial gift, then you will fail to achieve your goal without asking the reader to do something. Calls-to-action, therefore, prove vital to your appeals.
